It is our intention as a club to provide enjoyable and safe rides so we have written some very simple rules to follow for our group rides. We also pride ourselves on never leaving a rider behind whether it is because of a flat tyre or just lack of fitness. The group will always circle back or do extra kms to match everyones standard.
- The lead rider or riders should always be looking ahead for debris, pot holes, parked cars and any other obstructions on the road and clearly warn the following riders by pointing, waving and or verbal communication.
- Riders should never half wheel another rider as the rider in front may have to alter course unexpectedly at any time.
- It is acceptable to ride two abreast when the road allows (e.g. wide shoulder or very minimal traffic) but always be courteous to motorists and ride single file when the road narrows and doesn’t allow two abreast. This should be a decision called by the lead riders.
- Riders should never just stop from the back of the pack unless their intentions have been made clear to the group. It is too hard and unsafe to turn the whole group around to look for a missing rider.
- If a rider gets a flat the group should stop and the strongest riders will assist while the rest of the pack will head off again at a slower pace. The strong riders will then assist the stopped rider back to the pack.
- The pack should hold its formation at all times even on the down hills. Resist the urge to pass people on the down hills.
- Traffic signals must be obeyed at all times. This means stopping for red lights. The only exception is when the bikes are not triggering the sensor and the group decides it is safe to roll through.
- No rider should ever have head phones on as this is blocking one of the most important sensors. A rider can tell a lot about what is happening behind them from listening.
- Riders that are in the pack shouldn’t just be looking straight down at the wheel in front of them, they should also look ahead for potential hazards and riders signals.
- Be predictable with all your actions and warn others of any direction changes.
- Maintain a straight and steady line, avoid breaking unexpectedly when in the bunch.
- Always pass on the right and if you are being overtaken stay to the left and hold a steady line.
- Enjoy the ride and have fun.
